Val d’Allos – Skidåkning / Skiing

Tänk att få kombinera ljumma dagar vid Medelhavet med lite skidåkning då och då. Det är fantastiskt att ha den möjligheten till omväxling.

Jag har skrivit om skidåkning flera gånger förut, se inläggen. Ofta åker vi från Menton till vårt närmaste skidområde i Limone, Piemonte. Det fungerar bra både för dagsutflykter och för flera dagar med övernattning i den mysiga lilla staden.

Nyligen ville vi ha omväxling och åkte i stället längre västerut, till Val d’Allos i Frankrike. Det är en lite längre resa som tar ungefär 2,5 timme med bil från Menton förbi Nice och sedan uppåt i riktning mot Colmar och Barcelonnette. Vägarna är krokiga och smala, så det är bra att ta god tid på sig.

Orten Allos, som är genuin och trevlig med flera bra restauranger och små butiker, ligger i dalen som sträcker sig uppåt mot flera skidområden. Det största är La Foux d’Allos och ligger längst upp.

Det är ett riktigt imponerande skidområde. Backarna är varierande och det tar nog nästan en hel dag att åka från ena sidan till den andra och tillbaka.

I byn La Foux finns flera hotell och lägenhetskomplex. Restaurangutbudet är ganska bra. Speciellt förtjusta blev vi i Chez Natacha et Gael och i Le Verdon.

Vi åkte upp för ett par dagars skidåkning men hade otur. Det blåste storm när vi anlände och nästan alla backar och liftar var avstängda. Vi fick trösta oss med långa goda måltider och avkoppling framför brasan i vårt hotell.

Så småningom blev det bättre väder och vi fick i alla fall en lång underbart solig dag i backarna. Vi hann förstås inte alls utforska hela systemet och tänker absolut åka tillbaka till La Foux d’Allos igen. Då ska vi anpassa planerna efter väderprognoserna.

To combine the warm breeze by the Mediterranean with skiing in the white Alps, it is great to have this possibility.

I have written about skiing several times before, see the posts. Often we travel from Menton to our nearest ski resort in Limone, Piemonte. It is a good choice for day trips and also for longer stays with overnight in the cozy little town.

Recently we wanted to try something new and instead went further west to Val d’Allos in France. It is a little longer trip that takes about 2.5 hours by car from Menton past Nice and then towards Colmar and Barcelonnette. The roads are winding and narrow, so take your time.

Allos, a genuine and nice little town with several good restaurants and small shops, is located in the valley that extends up to several ski areas. The largest is La Foux d’Allos and is located at the top.
It is a really impressive ski area. The slopes are varied and it takes almost a whole day to go from one side to the other and back.

In the village of La Foux there are several hotels and apartment complexes. There are also several decent restaurants to choose among. We liked Chez Natacha et Gael and Le Verdon, in particular.

We went up for a couple of days of skiing but had bad luck. Upon arrival we were met by hard storms and almost all the slopes and lifts were shut off. We had to comfort ourselves with long good meals and relaxation in front of the fire in our hotel.

Eventually, the weather improved and finally we got a long wonderful sunny day on skies. Of course, we did not manage to explore the whole system and will definitely go back to La Foux d’Allos again. However, next time we will adjust our plans to the weather forecasts.
