Vandra ovanför St Jeannet / Hike above St Jeannet

Den lilla staden St Jeannet strax norr om Nice har vi skrivit om förut, se inlägget. Det är ett trevligt utflyktsmål med en bra restaurang och en fin vingård i närheten.
Varför inte samtidigt passa på att ta en vandringstur upp på någon av de berömda bergsknallarna ovanför staden?
Det finns flera turer att välja bland. Vi valde för några veckor sedan att gå upp på Baou de St Jeannet. Det är det distinkta berget som tornar upp sig bakom staden och som syns tydligt långt nerifrån kusten.
Skylten säger att man ska räkna med nästan 1,5 timme för att nå upp till toppen av berget.
Det är inte svårt att hitta upp, stigarna är väl markerade. Visst är det lite brant ibland men annars inte alls någon strapatsrik vandring.
Väl uppe på berget belönas vandraren med en formidabel utsikt ner över St Jeannet, Nice och Var-dalen. Mot norr syns fortfarande snöklädda alptoppar.
Eftersom det finns flera olika stigar kan du ta en liten rundtur uppe på berget för att utforska nya vägar. Ibland får du kliva över stenblock men det är inga problem.
Stigen ner mot staden slutar i en väg som blir en gata. Även om det här inte är någon väldigt lång vandring förtjänar man absolut en god lunch efteråt. /Ingrid

We have written about the small town of St Jeannet north of Nice, see the post. This is a lovely destination for a day out, with a good restaurant and a vineyard nearby. Why not also take the opportunity to go for a hike on one of the famous hills above the city?
There are several tours to choose from. Some weeks ago we chose to go up the Baou de St Jeannet. It is the distinctive mountain towering behind the city, clearly visible from far away. The sign says you should expect almost 1.5 hours to reach the top of the mountain. It is not difficult to find the way up, the trails are clearly marked. Sure, it’s a little steep at times but otherwise not at all an arduous hike.
Once up on the mountain, hikers are rewarded with a magnificent view down over St Jeannet, Nice and the Var valley. To the north you can still see snow-capped Alpine peaks.
Since there are several different paths up here you can take a little tour on the mountain to explore new areas. Sometimes you step over boulders but this is no problem. The path down to the town ends in a dust road that becomes a street.
Although this is not a very long hike, you absolutely deserve a good lunch when you return. /Ingrid
