Bygget av det stora garaget vid stranden i Menton/ A large underground garage under construction in Menton

Ett stort underjordiskt garage med 430 nya parkeringsplatser håller på att anläggas längs Quai Bonaparte och Gamla stan i Menton, vid Plage des Sablettes.

Detta parkeringsgarage har diskuterats länge och många oroliga boende i Gamla stan har uttryckt sina åsikter.

Nu har bygget startat och kommer att vara ungefär 18 månader. Målet är att allt ska vara klart före sommarsäsongen 2016.

Bygget har föregåtts av offentliga möten där olika parter och oroade Mentonbor har fått ställa sina frågor och förhoppningsvis fått svar.

Garaget kommer att ligga under havsytan mellan stranden och valven som hyser olika sportklubbar. Dessa klubbar har blivit utlokaliserade och kommer att öppna igen efter bygget. Valven kommer att bli intakta. Eventuellt kommer man att måla om portarna. Restaurangerna som låg längs gamla hamnen har fått stänga under byggperioden och återkommer därefter . Under byggtiden betalar restaurangägarna ingen hyra och hyreskontrakten kommer att förlängas med motsvarande tid som man tvingats ha stängt.

Man kommer att bygga i tre etapper. Den första längs valven, den andra etappen längs gamla hamnen och den tredje kommer vid Place Fontana vid Bastiljonen där man kommer att anlägga in- och utfarten till garaget. Den breda fina Sablettes-stranden kommer inte att beröras av bygget.

När allt är färdigt kommer man att ha ett stort bilfritt promenadstråk mellan valven och Sablettes stranden. Det enda som kommer att synas av garaget är ett par uppgångar för gående. En enda in- och utfart för bilar kommer att vara vid Bastiljonen.

Garaget kommer att bestå av tre våningar under jord. Man börjar med att gjuta en gigantisk vattentät  ”kista” som ska innesluta garaget. Därefter gräver man underifrån och uppåt, hur nu det går till. Företaget som anlägger är det samma som skapade Mentons stora reningsverk som ligger under Cocteau-museet. De har dssutom gjort många andra sådana anläggningar i bland annat Nice vilket borgar för att man kan vara helt lugn! Gamla stan kommer inte att påverkas alls. Arbetet kommar att avstanna nattetid och man ska göra allt för att Mentonborna ska bli störda så litet som möjligt… enligt Monsieur le Maire.

Priset beräknas till 15 miljoner euros som fördelas via en fond hos CARF med 9 miljoner euros och resten genom parkeringsavgifter som kommer att tas ut av Interparking under 30 år. Fastighetsägarna i Gamla stan kommer att få reducerat parkeringspris.

Man hade talat om att bygga en hiss upp till Place de la Conception, men det ingår inte i datta projekt. Man kommer inte heller att bredda trotoaren på Quai Bonaparte.

För hela Mentons stadskärna, med ”Le vieux Menton”, centrum med gågatan och hela den fina sandstranden les Sablettes, gör detta nya garage med 420 nya parkeringsplatser att fler kan parkera i vår underbara stad utan att bilarna tar över staden.

A large underground garage with 430 new parking spaces is under construction along the Quai Bonaparte in the old town of Menton at the Plage des Sablettes.

The parking garage has long been discussed and many concerned residents in the Old Town have expressed their opinions.

Now, construction has started and will last for approximately 18 months. The goal is for everything to be finished before the summer season in 2016.

The construction was preceded by public meetings where different parties and worried Menton inhabitants gave their questions and hopefully received answers.

The garage will be created under the sea between the beach and the vaults which houses various sports clubs. These clubs have been outsourced, and will be open again after construction. The arches will be intact. Possibly, the doors will be repainted. The restaurants that lay along the old port have been shut down during the construction period and will return thereafter. During construction, restaurant owners will pay no rent and the lease will be extended for the same period; however, one had to be closed.

The garage will be built in three phases. The first along the vaults, the second along the old port, and the third will be at Place Fontana where the only entrance and exit to the garage will be. The wide fine Sablettes Beach will not be affected by the construction.

When everything is ready, it will have a big pedestrian promenade between the arches and the Sablettes beach. The garage will not be visible except for a few access stairs to the underground parking. A single entrance and exit for cars will be at Bastiljonen.

The garage will consist of three underground floors. They will start by building a giant waterproof structure to enclose the garage. They will then dig out the space starting with the lowest level and then moving up. The company constructing is the same that created Menton’s large sewage treatment plant that is below the Cocteau Museum. They have also made many other such facilities including one in Nice, which ensures that you can be absolutely calm! Old Town will not be affected at all. The work will stop at night, and they will do everything possible so that the inhabitants will be disturbed as little as possible … according to ”Monsieur le Maire”.

The price is estimated at 15 million Euros. It will be paid through a fund of CARF of 9 million Euros and the rest with parking fees charged by Interparking for 30 years. Property owners in the Old Town will get reduced parking fees.

They had talked about building an elevator up to the Place de la Conception, but it is not included in this project. They will not widen the sidewalk along the Quai Bonaparte.

For the whole of Menton city center, the ”Le Vieux Menton,” center with pedestrian zone and throughout the fine sand beach les Sablettes, this new garage with 420 new parking spaces ensures that more cars can park in our wonderful city without crowding the city streets.
