Restauranger längs mina favoritpromenader i Menton / Restaurants along my favorite walks in Menton

”Les goûts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas”…Om tycke och smak ska man inte diskutera…så restaurangvalen nedan är mina favoriter just nu..

Jag tycker väldigt mycket om god mat. Mycket av mitt liv kretsar kring det och här i i södra Frankrike kan man få sitt lystmäte. Som tur är kan man också röra på sig året om utan att behöva vara rädd för ishalka eller snöslask. Förutom att gärna följa med Ingrid och förstås hennes bästa sällskap på härliga vandringar så har jag två favoritsträckor i själva Menton som jag aldrig tröttnar på. Jag utgår från Menton Garavan, men det går ju att starta var man vill och önskar. Den ena promenaden är att gå hela Boulevard Garavan, från gränsen mot Italien, eller upp kortsträckan genom Pinjelunden bort till utsiktsplatsen vid Gamla Kyrkogården där utsikten är hänförande.  Därefter går man ner mot gågatan och där väljer jag sedan restaurang efter väder. Är det soligt och lugnt blir valet givet. En restaurang längs havet..även om jag tycker att det är svårt att hitta någon som är riktigt prisvärd. Jag har två favoriter, les Artistes och ”Il était une fois”. Båda ligger efter Casinot om man har Gamla staden i ryggen.

Är det sämre väder stannar jag kanske till på Place du Cap där man kan få enklare lunch på Bar du Cap eller prisvärd meny på Stanley.

Min andra favoritsträcka är att följa havet från Garavan ända bort till början av ”Le Corbusiers promenad”. Det blir en sträcka på 1,2 mil tur och retur, så då är man väl värd en god lunch! Tycker man att det blir för långt att gå fram och tillbaka kan man ta buss 18 som följer hela kustlinjen. Längs havet har jag en given lunchfavorit, som dessvärre bara har öppet från april till slutet av badsäsongen. Restaurangen heter Cocody Sun och drivs av en bestämd men vänlig dam. Menyerna är mycket prisvärda och det är ofta fullbokat. Precis vid rondellen Victoria ligger Fellini, en restaurang som många tycker om. Vill man festa då ska man inte tveka att gå på Hippocampe som ligger vackert längs havet nästan framme vid Corbusierpromenadens början. Här äter man delikat i huvud sak fisk. Denna restaurang passar också perfekt för en söndagslunch…men boka bord! Menyerna varierar mellan 22 och 48 euros.

Det finns ytterligare en variant på ovanstående promenad. Det är att följa havet till Mentons stadsgräns mot Roquebrune och vika upp mot Carnolès. Det är ett område jag tycker så mycket om eftersom det är ett så livligt litet samhälle. Här finns flera restauranger. Dels Brasserie 199 som vi båda tidigare skrivit om men även en enkel bar ”Sa´vane Café”. Här serveras stora annorlunda sallader av ett trevligt par. Man kan sitta på deras lilla terrass och följa stadslivet från sitt lilla hörn. Båda ställena ligger på Avenue Aristide Briand.

För den som går promenaden med början i Roquebrune och går mot Garavan finns den givna lunchrestaurangen hos José och Simona på ”L´o à la bouche”. Här serveras utsökt hemlagad mat både till lunch och middag.

Det är stängt på onsdagar och adressen är 59 Porte de France i höjd med nya hamnen. Vill man sitta ”med fötterna i havet” kan man luncha med, för det mesta, gott resultat på Da Mitchou eller la Pergola.

”Les goûts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas ”… ”Taste and colors are not for discussion” … so the restaurant choices below are my favorites for the moment ..

I really like good food. Much of my life revolves around it and here in the south of France can get their fill. Fortunately, you can also move throughout the year without having to be afraid of ice or slush. Besides gladly comply with Ingrid and of course her best companion in the lovely hikes I have two favorite routes in the Menton I never tire of. I start from Menton Garavan, but you can start wherever you want and desire. One of the walk is to go all the Boulevard Garavan,  from the Italian border, or the short distance through the Parc du Pian go left to the lookout point at the old cemetery where the view is breathtaking. Then you go down the pedestrian street and there I choose restaurant depending of the weather. If it is sunny and calm the choice becomes obvious. A restaurant along the sea..even if I find it hard to find one who is really worth its price. I have two favorites, Les Artistes and ”Il était une fois”. Both are located after the Casino, if you have the old town in the back.

If it´s not sunny, I might stop at the Place du Cap where you can get simple lunch at Bar du Cap or value menu at Stanley.

My second favorite route is to follow the sea from Garavan all the way to the beginning of ”Le Corbusier’s walk”. This will be a distance of 1.2 mil round trip, so you are well worth a good lunch! If one feels that it is too far to go back and forth you can take bus 18, which follows the entire coastline. Along the sea, I have a particular lunchtime favorite, which unfortunately only open from April to the end of the bathing season. The restaurant is called Cocody Sun and operated by a firm but friendly lady. The menus are very affordable and it is often fully booked. Right at the roundabout Victoria is the Fellini, a restaurant that many enjoy. If you want to celebrate you should not hesitate to go on Hippocampe, beautifully situated along the sea almost at Corbusier-trails beginning.      Here you eat deliciously, mainly fish. This restaurant is also perfect for a Sunday lunch … but book a table! Menus vary between 22 and 48 euros.

There is a further variation on the above walk. It is to follow the sea to Menton town’s border with Roquebrune and turn up against Carnolès. It is an area I like a lot because it is such a busy little community. Here are several restaurants.                                    Brasserie 199 as we both previously written about but even a simple bar ”Sa’vane Café”. It serves big unusual salads by a nice couple. One can sit on their little terrace and follow the city life from your little corner. Both places are situated on Avenue Aristide Briand.

For those who prefer to walk starting in Roquebrune and towards Garavan you have the given lunch restaurant at José and Simona´s ”L’O à la bouche”. They serve delicious homemade food for both lunch and dinner.

However it is closed on Wednesdays. The address is 59 Porte de France. If you want to sit ”with your feet in the sea” you can have lunch with,  for the most part, good results at Da Mitchou or la Pergola.
