Tryffelfestival utanför Nice / Truffle Festival outside Nice

IMG_5979För mig har tryffel alltid varit lockande och speciellt, mycket tack vare min bror som håller tryffeln högt. Dessutom associerar jag det till Piemonte och Alba. På marknaden i Ventimiglia får man tag på det svarta och vita guldet och det betingar förstås ett högt pris. Nu hade jag tur och hittade en lista på olika festivaler kring vår kust och fastnade för en Tryffelfestival i Colomars förra helgen. Colomars ligger precis ovanför Nice öster om vindistriktet Saint Jeannet och norr om vinodlingarna i Bellet. Dit har vi fått följa med Ingrid och L på trevliga vinprovningar. Men nu var det Tryffel.

Regnet står som spön i backen och vi har ingen bil att ta oss dit med. Som tur är får vi bilskjuts längs den slingriga vägen upp från floddalen. Väl framme blir vi avsläppta precis utanför Colomars Auberge du Redier. Regnet öser ner, vi ser inte skymten av någon tryffelfestival, däremot en väldig massa bilar parkerade överallt. Klockan närmar sig två. Naturligast för oss vid den tidpunkten är att söka oss till något matställe. Vad är mer lockande än ett Auberge? Vi går mot restaurangen som förstås i regnet verkar helt öde…IMG_5980Vi öppnar dörren går in bakom ett skynke och där uppenbarar sig en jättestor matsal med, vad vi uppskattar, ett 150-tal människor som andäktigt avnjuter lunch.

Ägaren, dagen till ära klädd som tryffel-letare, kommer emot oss och frågar om vi vill slå oss ner. Vi får ett centralt tvåmannabord och blir upplysta om att det idag serveras en fast meny där alla rätter innehåller tryffel. Direkt ställs vinflaskan fram och vi skålar med varandra för turen att ha hittat rätt! Menyn ser ni nedan! Allt var delikat!IMG_5975

När vi avnjuter lunchen och sneglar ut mot regnet kommer vi fram till att vi varit på denna Auberge du Redier tidigare, då vi besökt vingårdarna i Bellet med Ingrid och L. Den gången var det dock strålande väder och vi satt i den vackra trädgården och Ingrid och jag avnjöt båda för första gången Bagna Cauda.

Efter den superba lunchen trotsade vi regnet och gick upp till Colomars lilla sporthall där Tryffelfestivalen höll på att avslutas…Ingen tryffel kvar…men däremot en hel del andra specialiteter som vi fick smaka. Stämningen var god och vi köpte en fin kringla ankkorv med tryffel!IMG_5977IMG_5981

Så begav vi oss ner till busstationen för att åka tillbaka till Nice. Buss 62 gäller! Vi fick en fantastisk tur ned för berget. Vi åkte förbi vinodlingen Via Augusta som vi tidigare besökt på vår biltur. Bussen tog oss ner till centrala Nice och vi gick av precis bakom Galeries Lafayette. Det kändes som en utflykt långt från storstaden trots att vi befann oss på buss-längds avstånd. Passar oss perfekt som inte är bilburna…även om vi tackar alla er djupt, som så generöst tar med oss på underbara bilturer!

For me, Truffles have always been a temptation, and I especially give thanks to my brother for this as he thinks highly of the truffle.  Furthermore, I associate Truffles with Piemonte and Alba. At the market in Ventimiglia, one can get hold of the black and white gold, and they, of course, command a high price. Now, I was fortunate and found a list of different festivals along our coast and settled on a Truffle Festival in Colomars last weekend.  Colomars is located just above Nice east of the wine district of Saint Jeannet and a little north of Bellet.  We have accompanied Ingrid and L on nice wine tastings here in the past, but now it was Truffles.
It is raining cats and dogs and we have no car. Fortunately, we get a ride along the winding road up from the river valley. Once we arrive we are dropped off right outside Colomars Auberge du Redier. The rain is pouring down, and we do not seeany signs of a truffle festival; but, on the ohter hand, we see an awful lot of cars parked everywhere. The time is approaching two a clock. This is the time normally for us to seek a place to eat. What is more appealing than an Auberge? We walkto the restaurant that in the rain appears completely deserted …
We open the door and walk in behind a curtain, and there appears a huge dining room with what we estimate are some 150 people who are devoutly enjoying lunch.The owner in honor of the day is dressed as a truffle-hunter, meets us, and asks if we want to sit down. We get a two-person table in the center and the owner informs that today they serve a fixed menu where all dishes contain truffles. A wine bottle is placed on the table right away and we toast each other for the good fortune to have found the right place! The menu is below! Everything was delicious!IMG_5975
As we are enjoying lunch and glance out at the rain, we realize that we have been at this Auberge du Redier in the past when we visited the vineyards of Bellet with Ingrid and L. That time, however, it was glorious weather, we sat in the lovely garden, and Ingrid and I both enjoyed Bagna Cauda for the first time.
After the superb lunch, we braved the rain and went up to Colomars small sports hall where the Truffle Festival was ending… No truffles left … but, on the other hand, there were a lot of other specialties that we got to taste. The atmosphere was great, and we bought a nice duck sausage with truffles!IMG_5981
Then we went to the bus station for our trip back to Nice. Take Bus 62! We got lucky on our way down the mountain. We drove past the vineyard Via Augusta that we had previously visited on a car drive. The bus took us down to the center of Nice, and we went off just behind the Galeries Lafayette. It felt like an excursion far from the big city even though we were merely a bus-ride away. Perfect for us with no car … although we do thank those of you who so generously take us along on wonderful car rides!
