Strålande goda nyheter till oss alla som hittat och älskar Taverna Il Cippo i Mortola Superiore, och lika goda för er som ännu inte gjort det men som nu får chansen: Restaurangen tycks överleva!

20130907_160102_resizedSignora och Signore Amina och Nelo drar sig tillbaka för en välförtjänt pensionärstillvaro och lämnar Il Cippo om några veckor i slutet av september. Därmed skulle sagan vara all, trodde vi, för denna härliga restaurang på bergskanten högt över havet. Vi är många som redan har börjat sörja.

När vi besökte Il Cippo igÃ¥r möttes vi dock av det glada beskedet att ”hjälpredan och extrakocken” Cynzia tar över ruljansen. Tydligen har Il Cippo tidigare drivits av hennes familj i flera generationer och hon har bestämt sig för att satsa pÃ¥ en fortsättning. Hon planerar att öppna igen under vÃ¥ren 2014.20130907_125852_resized

Vi ser fram mot många framtida långa trivsamma luncher hos Cynzia på Il Cippo, inledda med ett antal delikata antipasto, följt av perfekt pasta, därefter mustig carne, avrundat med förförisk dolce tillsammans med grappa eller limoncello. Inte blir det hela sämre av att promenaden från och tillbaka till Menton är hänförande vacker, oavsett om du tar den långa turen över passet på Monte Carpano eller den kortare längs vägen (eller åker bil).

Signora and Signore Amina and Nelo will retire in a few weeks. Many of us have already started to grieve over the loss of this wonderful taverna on the hillside high above the sea.

Yesterday, when we visited Il Cippo we heard the great news that Cynzia, their ”helper and assistant chef”, will take over the taverna. We learned that originally it was her family who ran the place for several generations, and she decided to invest in a continuation of this tradition. Her plan is to re-open during spring next year.20130907_155842_resized

We really look forward to many long pleasant lunches at Cynzia’s Il Cippo, starting with a number of delicious antipasto, followed by perfect pasta, continued with tasty carne, finalised with superb dolce combined with grappa or limoncello. Increasing the pleasure is the beautiful walk from and back to Menton, regardless if you take the long trail over Monte Carpano or the shorter along the road (or go by car).
