Badstränder i Menton – Beaches in Menton

Ett litet inlägg till S och alla ni andra som längtar ner till sol och bad vid Medelhavet. Stränderna i Menton väntar på er (så länge ni inte tänker röka eller ta med er hund)!

A little post to S and all of you who long for sun and bath by the Mediterranean. The beaches in Menton are waiting for you (as long as you don’t intend to smoke or bring a dog)!

På västra sidan om udden nedanför gamla stan sträcker sig stranden bort genom Roquebrune och till nästa udde, Cap Martin. Nedanför saluhallen och nya Cocteau-muséet börjar den med en sandstrand som snart övergår i småsten (bra om man inte vill bli så sandig). Dessutom  kan man sätta sig på trädäcken längst in i viken eller uppe i gräset i skuggan under palmerna. Längre västerut i höjd med Casinot smalnar stranden och består av stora stenblock, där gillar vi att sola och bada.

West of the cape in front of the old town, the beach goes all the way through Roquebrune to the next cape, Cap Martin. In front of the Market and the new Cocteau museum it begins with a sand beach which further west turns into a pebble beach (good when you don’t want to get sandy). You can also linger on the wooden decks above the sand or up on the grass in the shade below the palm trees. Further west towards the Casino the beach becomes narrow and consists of large stone blocks, which is also nice for sunbathing and swimming.

Öster om udden, mellan den gamla och nya hamnen, är det mer långgrunt och där finns en annan bred stor sandstrand. Där kusten svänger längs strandpromenaden Porte de France slutar efter ett tag det allmänna området och privata stränder, där man får betala för solstol och parasoll, tar vid. Ännu längre österut, efter den nya hamnen, kan man också bada (gratis).

East of the cape, between the old and the new harbour, the water is rather shallow and you have a wide large sand beach. Where the coast turns along the boardwalk Porte de France the public area ends and private beaches start. On these you have to pay for a sun chair and a parasol. Further east, after the new harbor, you can also swim (for free).

Ett sympatiskt inslag, som jag tror är nytt för i år, är ”strandbiblioteket” på udden mitt i stan. Den råkade vara stängd (för lunch?) just när jag fotograferade den lilla kiosken, men annars ser man caféstolar i skuggan framför hyllor fyllda med böcker. Tydligen vill staden Menton få oss att upplysa insidan medan vi bronsar utsidan. Jag skulle gissa att all litteratur är på franska och det kan ju ge ett bra tillfälle att förkovra sina språkkunskaper.

A pleasant addition, new this year I believe, is the ”beach library” on the cape in front of the old town. Unfortunately it was closed (for lunch?) when I took the picture of the small booth, but at other times you see chairs in the shade in front of shelves filled with books. Obviously the city of Menton wants to stimulate us to enlight our inside while we tan our outside. I would assume that the literature is all in French which gives you an opportunity to improve your language skills.
