Golf på Rivieran – Golf on Côte d’Azur

Det kom frågor från olika håll om var man kan spela golf i närheten av Menton.

Some people asked about the possibilities to play golf in the area around Menton.

San Remo Golf Club

Menton är inte stället man väljer om golf är det som står allra högst upp på agendan. Titta på naturen runt omkring – det är inte lätt att anlägga en golfbana i de branta alpsluttningarna som når ända ner till havskanten. Misströsta dock inte, det är ändå fullt möjligt att hitta golfbanor inom rimligt avstånd, om än inte gångavstånd.

Menton will not be your first choice if your highest priority is golf. Look at the surrounding nature – it must be quite a challenge to plan a golf course on the steep Alpine slopes reaching all the way down to the sea shore. However, do not despair. There are indeed several golf courses in the neighbourhood, although not in walking distance.

De två närmaste banorna är Monte Carlo (i Frankrike utanför La Turbie) och San Remo (Italien). Den första, och närmaste, är mycket vacker men ryktet säger att kvaliteten inte alltid står i proportion till den rejäla greenfeen.  Den andra, i San Remo, ligger ca 40 minuters bilresa österut och är också mycket vackert belägen i höjderna norr om staden med fin havsutsikt. Här kan du spela till rimligare greenfee. Om du sen kan tänka dig att köra knappt en timme norrut förbi Tende så finns där också Golf & Country Club Vievola.

The two closest courses are Monte Carlo (in France outside La Turbie) and San Remo (Italy). The first one, and the nearest, is beautifully set but rumor has it that the quality is not always on par with the extensive green fee. The second one, in San Remo, is situated about 40 minutes’ drive east from Menton and is also nicely set in the hills above the town with lovely sea view. Here you can play at a reasonable green fee. About an hour’s drive, just north of Tende, you can also find Golf & Country Club Vievola.

Som sagt, östra Rivieran är inte anpassad för fanatiska golfare även om det går att hitta banor också här. Om du tar dig litet längre västerut förbi Nice finns det däremot massor med banor av olika slag. Ett bra ställe för att hitta information om banor är t.ex.:

Frankly, the east part of Côte d’Azur is not ideal for the fanatical golfer, even if you can find golf courses also here. If you move just a little west past Nice, you can on the other hand find a massive number of golf clubs of all kinds. A useful web site for finding information about golf clubs is e.g.:
